[Scorpion 13] Moving up to Move On

A Month Later....

Captain Kaile Emmerson
Commanding Officer
USS Scorpion

Kaile left the admiral's office wearing the new pip against her neck.  She was officially a commanding officer. Though she didn't think she was ready, she knew for sure if she didn't take this job, they would stop repairs on the Scorpion, decommission it and disband the crew. It'd taken years for the crew they had then to trust each other, depend on each other and love each other.  She wasn't about to let them split the whole crew up.

Taking a breath, she lifted her chin and walked through the base. She was going to find a quiet place, sit down maybe get some reading done and maybe even head back down to Spain to see if she could get some shopping done.  But the fates had a different plan.  Her comm badge chimed and she moaned.

=/\=Yes?=/\=
=/\=We'd like to see you on board the Scorpion commander. I believe we are finished.=/\=
=/\=On my way.=/\=

Kaile stopped in her temporary quarters for a moment to freshen up and change her uniform before making her way to the Scorpion.  When she stepped abroad, it felt diferently. She wasn't sure what it was but she kind of liked it.  A few ensigns turned to look at her and she could see shock written all over their faces.  Nodding to one then another, she made her way along the corridor until she reached the bridge.

"I guess congratulations are in order," Samira Dex grinned at her. "If anyone was going to be Captain after Aaron I am glad it was you."

"Well, I wish I shared your confidence, Samira," Kaile sat in the XO's chair and crossed her leg.

When Samira eyed her quizzically, she frowned and moved to the captian's chair. "Okay, what do you have for me?" Kaile asked.

"Well," Samira handed over the PADD. "We have the breach on decks four and five fixed. Everything is ready. We're working on the warp core right now. We just cant seem to get it up to an output of four thousand teradynes per second."

"Where are you now?"

"Three thousand two."

Kaile nodded. "Not bad. You'll get it up soon."

Samira grinned. "We're hoping once we get the horizontal conduits back in place it'll be where we want. "

"ALright sounds good. What about the disruption to the sheilds?"

"Those were worked on first. We have the sheilds up to ninety five percent. A few more tweeks and we'll be fully operational."

Kaile scanned the padd with all the other repairs that was made, the new additions and smiled. She was very happy with where the repairs were. "Well, I guess I can tell the brass we'll be ready in about two weeks." Kaile said, scanning her padd. "I should inform the crew. Good job. Remind me to have a party for your team. You've done great work with this."

Once again Samira grinned. The Trill had some an amazing personality. Kaile laughed and stood. She walked around the bridge looking at the difference in it.  Taking a breath she smiled and turned to Samira. "Informed the crew they are to start returning within a week. We'll need all the department heads here sooner to make sure their departments are up and running without a hitch."

"Aye Captain."

Kaile winced then.

"You know--you're going to have to start getting used to that word," Samira said softly.

"Kaile nodded. "I know..."

"I'll keep working. I'll carry out your orders and see you soon?"

Kaile nodded again.

"And er...Captian? Get some sleep. You have to wait until after the second mission before you get all burn ouy and wrinkled."

Kaile chuckled. "I can't yet. I need to go down and check on the status of Captain Golding's trial.  Then I'll try getting some sleep."

Samira nodded and exited the bridge leaving Kaile alone. She rested her hands on her hips and looked around.  It was so strange calling it her bridge.
